On the day we meet the Sun was high in the sky and it seemed to be an ordinary day. The Asphalt was still steaming form the Rain and the wet streets where glistening in the rays of the warming midday Sun. I had planned to spend my afternoon on the Piazza with my friend Steve but he had better things to do and I just decided to have a quick espresso at Luis’s Bistro.
I was sitting down in the usual spot under the Trees, this was my favorite time of day I was thinking. Not that there would be a particular time of day that I didn’t like … maybe apart from the morning just around the time it starts to get busy and the world finally decides to get going. Her name was Rachel and I noticed her walking across the street ….my heart skipped a beat and I was starting to fade into a different world where nothing mattered anymore. The only thing I could see was here …the flowing summer dress her pale skin, dark short hair. She didn’t notice me and I felt a bit like a voyeur following her every move. She stopped for a moment and looked over to me as if she knew what I was doing … and than she smiled.
I don’t think that anybody ever smiled at me this way and in an instant our eyes met.
Through the busy street she turned and walked away it was as all the sorrow in the world all the problems hatred and pain was gone. I tried to breath again.
